For my focus of the poster project on access to mental health, I delved into the critical issue of veterans' PTSD and mental health challenges resulting from their service in the military. My research unveiled alarming statistics: veterans face a suicide rate 1.5 times higher than the general population, as reported by the American Addiction Center. Shockingly, female veterans experience a staggering 2.5 percent higher suicide rate, despite receiving assistance from the VA.

Sticky note Method

I streamlined the ideation process using sticky notes and a Sharpie, allowing me to quickly place taglines and rough sketches to gauge their attention-grabbing potential. Through the ideation process, I landed on two versions. I chose Pill Roulette for the Concept to push further With the tagline “Not All Wounds are Visible.”

Final Poster

For the final version of the poster, I captured an additional 20 photos to ensure the visibility of the bullets. Utilizing Photoshop, I converted the color of the bullets to black and white. This alteration made the bullets stand out distinctly from the pills and the pill bottle. By rendering the bullets in black and white, the poster now conveys a heightened sense of foreboding, effectively evoking the theme of someone teetering on the brink of suicide.
